RYLUND JOHNSON

I was the member for Yellowknife North in the Legislative Assembly from 2019-2023. During this time I was also the Caucus chair and Chair of the Standing Committee on Government Operations. Following being an MLA I was a lawyer for the City for an 18 month term. I thoroughly enjoyed working for the City in a staff role and am excited for the opportunity to serve in a councillor role.
Beyond being a policy nerd and lawyer who intimately understands the workings of government, I have spent much of my time organizing community events. Some things I have done to keep Yellowknife weird recently:
1. Took a disproportionate amount of the credit for ending the time change;
2. Been the Ticketing Manager, Radio Dispatcher, Beer Garden Manager and Hospitality Manager for Folk on the Rocks for different years;
3. Helped organize Snowking Cup;
4. Helped organize group Survivor (like the reality show but in Yellowknife);
5. Helped organize Still Dead Film Festival;
6. Helped organize a recreational sports league and pickleball tournament;
7. Helped organize a drop-in hockey league;
8. Failed miserably at trying to get a housing co-op started;
9. Failed miserably at trying to find any path to building housing as a for-profit developer;
10. Organized an event where we ate pudding with a fork for no apparent reason;
11. Helped organize a 10 day Meditation course on a boat;
12. Helped start Makerspace YK.
